The purpose of this
program is to further the study of local government and governance in general,
and local regulation in particular, through data collection efforts, original
research, and the dissemination of the results of these efforts through the
Local Governance web site. This program complements the research, teaching, and
service mission of the Center by directing resources and scholarly attention to
questions related to local governance. These efforts are implemented
through several ongoing activities under the supervision of the Program
Director:
1. Research Program on Local Governance and
Regulation This program will support and carry out research efforts
that examine the local government, governance structures, regulatory processes
and their economic impacts.
2. Local Governance Working Papers This
site assembles work from leading scholars in political science, economics,
public administration and planning on issues of local governance. This site is
frequently updated.
3. Local Government Data Archive and
Repository

public source for data on local government from economics, political science,
planning and other fields. In addition to archiving replication data sets for
published work, the Program will collect and archive data produced by HUD, ICMA,
and others. We encourage urban scholars to archive their data at this site.
4. Collection and Management of Longitudinal
Local Governance and Regulation Data This effort will be undertaken at
both the national level and the state level. There is a great need for currently
available data on local government to be collected, organized, and managed in a
usable manner. This effort will greatly benefit scholars of local government in
general, and the work of the Center in particular.Scholars outside FSU are
encouraged to contribute to this effort. For Florida, the Program will assemble a
data set that tracks land use regulation and economic growth over time for local
governments across the state.
